October 15, 2010 Califia Bio Subaward for Crestone Inc. Anti-Infectives SBIR Grant: Crestone Inc. (Boulder, Colorado) has been awarded a significant NIH phase 1 SBIR grant to develop oral agents to treat Gram positive infections. Califia Bio is participating as a subcontractor and supplying Medicinal Chemistry services to help optimize compounds for identification of an IND candidate.

The compounds are a novel class of DNA replication inhibitors. These molecules which selectively inhibit an essential component of the replicative DNA polymerase complex and are potent, orally available, and effective against all clinically-relevant Gram-positive pathogens, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) and penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae (PRSP).
